The Dronesavior® is an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) system, designed primarily for rapid rescue of shipwrecked people and assistance to swimmers in drowning situations. This life-saving drone is capable of rapidly carrying a self-inflatable float which, by remote control, is dropped with surgical precision next to the person, or persons, in difficulty or in danger of drowning at sea, or in a dangerous area of the coast or beach, until the arrival of other means of rescue, such as lifeguards.

The Dronesavior has a digital communications system consisting of a megaphone on board and a PTT ("Push to talk") intercom on land, allowing remote instructions to be given to the castaway or people swimming to dangerous zones. The system can operate during the day or night. During the night, the payload should consist of a thermal and a RGB camera.

Response time in rescue actions is a critical factor, and can be the difference between life and death. Typically, the system is to be installed on beaches or at an observation post near them. It can also be transported in vehicles and used in waterfront operations where necessary.  

The handling of the system does not require a certified drone operator, however its operation does require an operator with a drone operation course, and should be familiar with the regulations, general and safety standards for drone operation ("Fly Safe") and training of the system on the beach.

 

Additionally, the Dronesavior system can be used in a wide range of missions of interest to Civil Protection or the National Maritime Authority, namely:

• Monitoring and observation of points of interest;

• Rapid transport of objects or devices to people in distress, in places of difficult access or far away (for example, a defibrillator);

• Locating people in search and rescue operations;

• Forest surveillance, urban or rural fire monitoring, and other missions of interest to civil protection.

 

The system is capable of recording photographs or moving images (video) in UHD (4K) format.

The operation of Dronesavior on beaches must be authorized by the Captaincy (National Maritime Authority) that has that beach under its  jurisdiction, and comply with any restrictions issued by the National Civil Aviation Authority, National Air Authority. Unless with special authorization by ANAC or protocol with that authority, the drone should always be operated in VLOS and not further than 500 meters from the operator. Also without authorization, its altitude cannot exceed 120 meters, and in some beaches this maximum altitude is much lower since they are within Airport/Aerodrome Operational Protection zones, or other situations foreseen in ANAC Regulation #1083/2016 for drone operation.
